I am exploring the abstract and sculptural possibilities of the modern micromosaic. I feel that the micromosaic comes into being the instant the container (vessel-space) is united with the contained (tessera). I carve vessel-spaces (nests) in stone that both restrain and release the mosaic. My tesserae are worked into the micromosaic with movement sensibilities. Recent work, composed sans cartoon, attempts to integrate the nest and mosaic and activate each tessera in a play of exertion and recuperation. I want to generate art objects that are both stable and mobile, aggregates which tempt one’s eyes into an intimate dance.
